How to Use Essential Oils
Essential Oils are priceless elixirs from nature that offer a wide range of therapeutic and medicinal benefits, including relaxation, anxiety relief, sleep aid, skincare, haircare, and wellness. As these are highly concentrated liquids, proper care needs to be taken while using them. Check out our guide to learn how to use these oils safely, and harness the maximum benefits.
There are several ways to use Essential Oils. The most common way is to inhale them, either from the bottle or by rubbing a drop in your palm. You can also diffuse them in your room or office. These can also be applied topically after proper dilution in a Carrier Oil or cream, and some of these can be taken internally in appropriate dosage.
Inhale
Take a whiff from the bottle of your favorite Essential Oil to soothe your mind and relax your body. You may take a drop of Essential Oil in your palm, rub it nicely, and cup your hands around your nose and inhale deeply.
Diffuser
Electric diffusers are a great way of diffusing Essential Oils in your bedroom, living room, or office. Enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy and create a perfect ambience of your choice. Add 6-12 drops of your favorite Essential Oils to the diffuser filled with water.
Nebulizer
Nebulizer is the preferred way of using Essential Oils for wellness or therapeutic benefits and is loved by experienced aromatherapists. Unlike ultrasonic diffuser, it diffuses without water dilution, and is therefore known to preserve the therapeutic essence and rich aroma of the oil better. Add a few drops of your favorite Essential Oil to the nebulizer and turn it on.
Topical Application
Apply Essential Oils on your pulse points, such as wrist, temples, feet, behind the ears, behind the neck, etc., for relaxation, anxiety relief, sleep aid, headache, and so on. Dilute 1-3% of Essential Oil in a base oil such as Fractionated Coconut Oil (2-6 drops in 10ml of base oil) and use a roll-on bottle for easier application. You may also dab a drop of milder Essential Oil such as Lavender, Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, etc., on your pulse points.
Skin Care
Incorporate Essential Oils in your skincare routine to boost hydration, delay aging, fade marks and blemishes, control acne, and so on. Add 1-3% of Essential Oil to your face oil or cream (i.e., add 0.5-1ml or 10-20 drops of Essential Oil in 30ml of face oil). Apply 2-3 drops of this blended face oil after cleansing on damp skin.
Hair Care
Incorporate Essential Oils into your hair care regime to stimulate hair growth, boost scalp health, and so on. Add 2-5% of Essential Oil in a hair-boosting Carrier Oil, such as Jojoba (i.e., add 2-5ml or 40-60 drops of Essential Oil in 100ml of Carrier Oil). Massage onto scalp, leave at least for 30-45 min before washing. Leave overnight for better results.
Steam Inhalation
Steam inhalation of Eucalyptus and other Essential Oils help provide relief from cold, cough, and sinus. Add 1-2 drops of these oils to the steam inhaler and take deep breaths. You can also add 1-2 drops in boiling water and take steam.
Massage
Enjoy a healing aromatherapy massage to soothe your tired muscles, relax, unwind, and de-stress. Dilute 1-2 % of the required Essential Oil(s) in a base oil such as Jojoba or Fractionated Coconut Oil to make a therapeutic massage oil.
Cold or Hot Compress
Several Essential Oils, such as Orange, Lavender, Peppermint, etc., can be used for face and body wipes for relaxing and refreshing effects. Add 4-8 drops to a bowl of cold or warm water, soak a cloth in water, and apply on the face or body. The hot compress method is commonly used to apply specific Essential Oils on sore muscles to relieve fatigue and soreness.
Bath
Relax, unwind, ease body aches, and enjoy other aromatherapy benefits by adding 4-8 drops of Essential Oil, prefereably mixed with solubilizer, to a warm bath. We recommend diluting in solubilizer to ensure proper dispersion of the Essential Oil to avoid skin contact with floating concentrated oil droplets. Dilute Essential Oil in 1:4 or 1:8 ratio (1:4 part means mixing 1 part of Essential Oil to 4 parts of solubilizer).
Linen Spray
Freshen up your linens, sheets, curtains, and upholstery by spraying a homemade all-natural essential oil-based spray or our hydro mists. Add 1-2% of the Essential Oil(s) of your choice to water to create a non-toxic custom linen spray (20-40 drops of Essential Oil(s) to 100ml of water).
Surface Cleaning or Cleaning Spray
Create a non-toxic surface cleaner with Tea Tree, Grapefruit, Lemon, and other Essential Oils that eliminates harmful bacteria while leaving a cheerful, fresh aroma trail. Add 40-80 drops of Essential Oil(s) in an equal part mixture of 100ml water and vinegar, or in 100ml rubbing alcohol.
